Rooms To Go

Rooms To Go is the go-to spot if you want to pick out a mattress and a full bedroom set in the same trip. Their Madison location on Gallatin Pike North carries a solid range of innerspring, hybrid, and memory foam options from brands like Sealy and Serta, all displayed in fully staged room settings that make it easier to visualize everything together.

Queen mattresses generally start around $399 and climb from there depending on the brand and feel. They frequently run financing promotions, so if you are furnishing a new place or doing a full bedroom refresh, the package deals can offer real savings compared to buying each piece separately.

Madison Furniture Outlet

The selection leans toward value-oriented innerspring and foam mattresses, so do not expect luxury brands, but the savings can be meaningful if your budget is tight.

Queen options can often be found starting around $199 or less, and the staff tends to be low-key and easy to talk to. It is worth calling ahead to confirm current inventory since stock at outlet-style stores changes frequently.

Mattress King

Mattress King is a local favorite on Gallatin Pike North that has been serving the Madison and greater Nashville area for years. Being locally owned means the people working there are actually invested in your experience, and you will not get the same canned sales pitch you might encounter at a national chain.

They carry a solid mix of brands including Serta, Beautyrest, and some regional options, with queen prices generally starting around $299. The store is smaller than Mattress Firm, but that often works in your favor since the staff has more time to focus on you rather than managing a floor full of customers.

Delivery Considerations

Most Madison mattress stores deliver within the local area, but the details vary quite a bit from one place to another. Mattress Firm and Sleep Outfitters typically offer scheduled delivery windows, often within a few days of purchase, and both usually include basic setup. Rooms To Go schedules furniture and mattress delivery together, which is convenient but can mean a slightly longer wait if you are ordering a full bedroom package.

Mattress King and Shay's Bedding, being smaller local shops, may offer more flexible delivery arrangements since you are working directly with a smaller team. Always ask about the haul-away policy before you buy. Several stores in Madison will remove your old mattress for free or a small fee, but this is not guaranteed at every location.

Delivery fees in the Madison area generally run anywhere from free to around $99 depending on the store and your distance from the shop. Before you commit, ask specifically about setup (do they put the mattress on your existing bed frame or just drop it inside the door?) and whether there is a charge to take your old mattress away. You can also review our mattress shopping checklist to make sure you are asking the right questions before delivery day.

Mattress Buying Guide

Understanding Firmness Levels

Firmness is probably the most misunderstood part of buying a mattress. Most stores use a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is extremely soft and 10 is basically a gym floor. The vast majority of people end up somewhere between a 4 and a 7, but the right number for you depends on how you sleep, not just what feels comfortable in a showroom for 90 seconds.

Side sleepers generally do better on softer mattresses (around a 3 to 5) because they need pressure relief at the shoulder and hip. Back and stomach sleepers usually want something firmer, in the 6 to 8 range, to keep the spine properly aligned. Combination sleepers are the tricky group since they move around and often benefit from a medium feel that works across positions.

If you share a bed with a partner who has a different preference, look at split-firmness options or mattresses with a medium feel that lands in the middle for both of you. Several stores on Gallatin Pike carry adjustable or split-king setups worth asking about.

Size Selection Strategy

The most common mistake people in Madison make when buying a mattress is not measuring their bedroom first. A king-size mattress is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long. In a smaller bedroom, that can leave you with almost no walking space once you factor in nightstands and a dresser.

A queen is the sweet spot for most couples in average-sized bedrooms. It gives each person about 30 inches of width, which is workable but not luxurious. If you have the room and the budget, a king makes a noticeable difference in how much you disturb each other during the night. Our mattress size guide breaks down the exact dimensions alongside typical room size recommendations if you want a clearer picture before you shop.

Also think about ceiling height if you are using a thick mattress with a tall platform or adjustable base. Some of the newer hybrid mattresses run 13 to 15 inches thick, and stacking that on a high-profile foundation can make getting in and out of bed genuinely awkward.

Budget Planning

Here is the honest truth about mattress pricing in Madison: there is a lot of room between what you need to spend and what you could spend. A perfectly good queen mattress from a reputable brand can be found for $500 to $800 at most stores along Gallatin Pike. You do not need to spend $2,000 to get a mattress that will last a decade and sleep well.

That said, going too cheap carries its own risk. Entry-level mattresses in the $200 to $300 range can work fine for guest rooms, but for your primary bed, the cheap foam tends to break down faster and lose its support within a few years. Try to think of it as a cost-per-night calculation rather than a sticker price. Our mattress buying guide has more detail on how to set a realistic budget based on your priorities.

Ask every store about their current promotions before you negotiate. Most Madison mattress retailers run sales tied to national holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, and the period around July Fourth are typically the best times). Even outside of sales, there is usually some room to ask for free delivery or an accessory thrown in.

Prefer Shopping Online?

If you would rather skip the drive down Gallatin Pike and shop from your couch, Sleepology is worth a serious look. It is built around a model that removes sales commissions from the equation entirely, which means the prices you see are not inflated to cover a salesperson's cut. They back that up with a "double-the-difference" price match guarantee and a Price Predictor tool that shows you whether you are actually getting a good deal before you buy.
