Had an amazing experience both buying and (most importantly) sleeping on the mattress we got here. He was super helpful in guiding me to the right option, super clear about the delivery process, and this is literally the most comfortable mattress my wife or I have ever slept on - and we’ve tried everything from the mainstream to the exotic/luxury brands. 5 stars across the board!

The mattresses here are THE BEST. They are well made and very comfortable. I've bought one for every family member and have zero regrets. I have also purchased wood-frame beds here and been very happy with the selection, quality and installation. Recommend without reservation.

While I love the mattress that I purchased from the Natural Mattress Store, I am giving five stars to this review mostly because of the excellent customer service that I received from Will, the store owner. After about 9-10 months of sleeping on our Natural Mattress I noticed that it was sagging on my side of the bed. I'm 6' tall and weigh about 195 lbs. I side sleep and move around a lot. I thought I must have just worn down the mattress. My wife, who is tiny, had no issues on her side of the bed. So I wrote to Will and sent some photos. He thought it was an unusual warranty but agreed to replace the mattress for the cost of delivery. I thought that was very reasonable, especially since we live in Sacramento. In any case, I realized in hindsight that the sagging was likely due to the bed frame not offering enough support. Our bed has curved wooden slats under the mattress.
The slats are somewhat flimsy, with 2.75" spaces between them; about an inch wider than the mattress spring coil diameter. Not only are the slats not strong enough, but there is no support for the spring coils that rest over the spaces between each slat. I have since installed bunkie boards under the mattress and now it feels firm and well supported. If you have the same type of bed frame that I have, you may want to purchase the 100% latex mattress rather than the spring mattress with latex cover. I suggest bringing photos of your bed frame to show to Will. He seems very knowledgeable and I believe he really wants to help his customers make the best choices.

It took me six months on research, visiting mattress stores in San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma County, and I am absolutely satisfied and extremely happy with my purchase at the Natural Mattress Store. This was almost two years ago, and our mattress has stood the test of time. It’s still quite firm as if we just purchased it. What I like about the mattresses here is the quality and that they are made locally. Will was accommodating and he doesn’t try to oversell you. He knows he has an excellent product. Highly recommend these mattresses!

One star for two reasons, plus the owner's bizarre response which is all you need to know about customer satisfaction at this place:
1.) Not a competitive return policy, with no satisfaction guaranteed. All other competitive organic brands, with arguably better constructed products, offer full refunds and exchanges for up to a year. The current price of the mattress is 50% more than similar organic mattresses available with customer friendly return policies.
2.) The mattress is "kit" built, in that they are simply a zippered fabric enclosure where they place basic coil springs (that come in a selection of firmness levels) and a foam pad on top of the springs. It's literally assembled in your room when delivered. Nice and simple, which is fine, but in practical use makes for a mattress that isn't ideal and doesn't seem to hold up well.
There is no edge support so you will roll out of bed if you get too close to the edge. Trying to move the mattress is like trying to move a "slinky."
It's odd that the springs and foam have no labeling, so you don't know where they were manufactured or even if you got what you ordered in terms of firmness.
We purchased one about three years ago, and within the short trial window made a switch in the spring density, but still didn't like it and at that point no option to return it or try another density.
Moved it to our guest room, and had a great experience with other mattress retailers in finding a good fit to replace it.
Writing this now because even our guests commented on the lack of comfort in the mattress, so just absorbed the costly mistake of buying this mattress and had it hauled away for a new one in the guest room.
These are expensive mattresses, and given the way they're kit built it would seem logical they could at least provide a one year satisfaction guarantee to try different springs IF they're confident in the product.
I'm sure for many these mattresses may be fine, but we failed to compare these against similar natural mattress offerings when we purchased this and regret not doing so. Too focused on buying local vs ensuring a good value received.
