I recently purchased a queen tatami bed with tatami mats and I love it. I will say: the online community is largely disappointed in the futon shop because of the return policy for the mattresses, and that the Tatami mats are not made in Japan. These reviews didn’t concern me because I know what a futon feels like and I ain’t buying one. And, I’m not buying into consumer racism whereby the country of a mats construction impacts its quality - ie, I have no issue with a mat made in China. I landed on the Futon shop because 1) I wanted a 5-inch tall frame, which cheaper online companies don’t carry, 2) I needed a bed within 1 week, whereas all other companies had multiple month wait times and additional shipping charges 3) I had visited the shop in person and was able to choose a beautiful wood staining. When I ordered, the staff were very kind, and even gave me a discount. Danesh at the store helped carry mats out to my vehicle, and at one point helped to stack a bunch of futons up so that I could simulate my at-home environment. All in all, it’s a beautiful frame, easy to put together. Keep in mind: you’ll need to air out the tatami mats.
View on GoogleHad a fine experience purchasing a futon couch bed here. Visiting the showroom made a real difference in our buying decision—it’s impossible to know what medium firm feels like until you sit on it. Dinesh was nice about answering all of our questions and working with us to put together the perfect couch for what we needed. Unfortunately not all of the futon covers were available, especially the softest GOTS certified ones, but we still found something we liked. Definitely a good store to go to if you’re looking for a versatile couch-bed combo for your house or apartment. We had our shop between 4-5p and since they were about to close, I didn’t totally feel like there was a lot of time to sit on our decision.
View on GoogleShiki futon Japanese floor bed. Natural indeed. Smells like a wet barn, and it does not fade over time no matter what they tell you. You can air it out, fluff and rotate that thing for eternity and still...wet...barn! We have had the mattress for 6 months and it still smells just as strong as the day we unrolled what could only be described as an entire live sheep. We got the wool and cotton mattress at first, that was an unbearable mistake. The smell was so strong we had to put it into a whole other room. Then that room then smelled like the inside of barn and stayed that way days after the mattress was gone. I would have just asked for my money back but they don't do that, you can only trade it in for something else within 30 days and you can only do that once...probably for this very reason. So we got the organic cotton thinking there is NO way all natural cotton can smell like we are sleeping on top of a wet sheep... WRONG! Although it was not quite as bad as the wool/cotton combo from hell... Still smells like we sheer sheep inside our bedroom and use the wool as insulation...so offensive. 10/10 do NOT recommend, unless you enjoy sleeping on or smelling of wet barn animals.
View on GoogleI am so grateful to the Futon Shop for being accommodating of my needs. They were willing to do whatever was necessary to ensure I could have furnishing that was safe for me, given my severe allergies and sensitivities to chemicals and many other things. Thanks to them, I have some lovely unfinished furniture without chemicals that is a pleasure to look at and to use. I'm sure that I will enjoy them for many years. I strongly recommend the Futon Shop for anyone who has allergies and sensitivities.
View on GoogleI am so glad Seattle has a TFS showroom where I could find the perfect futon, frame, shikibuton, and futon cover. I was going for wabi sabi / minimal Japanese style for my new home and getting entire sets at TFS made my life so much easier. Dinesh was extremely helpful and helped check cost and availability for the many combinations of items I was interested in. He also showed me how to use each futon and the differences. Dinesh made sure my items were made and delivered on time. The quality and comfort of TFS products are so chefs kiss. 🤌 Local delivery was only $100. I love my living room futon and bedroom shikibuton setup. Subtle smell, so comfortable, and looks amazing. Highly recommend spending an hour at the store to figure what's best for you and consulting with staff! I went with the Okinawa Futon Frame + Tranquility 8" + Beefy Bull Cotton Natural for living room and 5" Latex PLA + Cotton Shikibuton + Tatami mat. TFS also has a great selection of tatami dressers, bedding, and modular sofas that I'm going to come back next month to check out. Only con is their website needs serious improvement. I'm glad I went in-store otherwise it would have been impossible to figure what was / wasn't in stock and ready to be shipped asap. The item descriptions are not detailed enough to compare products, you really have to go in-person to FEEL the differences.
