American Mattress

Ordered two mattresses May 12th. Neither has been delivered and we have not received any updates. We have called almost every store location in Michigan as well as their corporate office and have no answer, so we are disputing the charge. We drove back to this location hoping to speak to a real person, but even though their open sign was on and it was during regular business hours, the doors were locked, nobody was on duty, and the store appeared to be messy and mostly gutted of mattresses on display. We purchased the mattresses from salesperson Gideon Jones with no notification that the business had filed for bankruptcy. It was a red flag that he needed to place the order over the phone. DO NOT buy from this company, TOTAL SCAM!

I found out Sunday that I had an unexpected houseguest. My husband’s 90 year old uncle was going to stay over. We didn’t have a guest bedroom. I called around and American Mattress - Ann Arbor came to our rescue. They were able to deliver next day and the crew did all the setup while I worked remote. Amazing customer service!! Thank you!!

No one was in the showroom with the doors open! Sales person on the phone not knowledgeable at all. Do NOT waste your time!

Edit: while it's fair to say I didn't pay "full price", the items were on a Presidents' Day sale as I recall, which was of course part of the reason I committed to the purchase initially! The free pillows were never part of what I asked for or wanted (nor was I told I would receive them). Also, if I had known I would not receive the 10% off like I was promised, I might have switched to a different bed frame which was in stock rather than wait as long as I did for the one I ordered. The price difference between them was not significant enough to warrant waiting that long but for the 10% discount, as I recall. I guess my main frustrations here are the broken promise, the unsolicited attempt to make it up with the pillows, and several months of back and forth phone tag afterward with no definitive answer as to why I was unable to get what I was promised. If after the first call Josh had just told me "yeah, it was heavily on sale already so I couldn't get you the 10%, sorry I promised that!" I would have been more understanding. Mattress and frame are fine (and locally sourced), although the installation was not very thorough -- they didn't ask me what height I wanted the bed at so I had to adjust it myself (which for a king size bed is an ordeal!). I was promised a 10% discount on the purchase due to an excessively long wait for the bed frame (about a month), which evidently was denied by corporate and so I paid full price. After months of back and forth voicemails with no useful information (and lack of calls back, often) trying to find out why it was denied and what we could do instead, the manager I was working with transferred to another store. It's been about 9 months since the purchase and many, many phone conversations later, no action has been taken and no clarification given. Not a great customer service experience, I'll admit. Kinda surprising given the reviews about positive customer service at this location.

Our salesperson, Hayden, was very knowledgeable and made the process of choosing a mattress and base very easy. He was able to answer all of our questions and was very patient as we took a long time to decide. He did not pressure us at all, but stayed in contact to make sure we had all the information we needed to make an informed decision. He presented data on each of the mattresses we were considering, including pressure point images, to help us understand our options and what might work best for my back issues. Very satisfied with our experience.
