American Mattress

UPDATE: I hate to revise my review, but I’ve given it plenty of time. We ordered our special-order mattress on March 1. It's now June 23—16 weeks later—and we still don’t have it. We were told 3–6 weeks, and that’s what our receipt states. Every time I call, I’m told someone will reach out or delivery will be scheduled "soon," but no one ever follows up. At this point, I’m concerned we’ve lost our deposit. I’ll keep calling, but I’m genuinely worried we’ll never get our mattress. Eric was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We tried out mattresses at a few other places but ultimately came back to Eric at American Mattress to make our purchase. We felt prices there were fair and we are happy with our purchase. We will definitely return in the future.

I purchased a mattress with a down payment of $150 in June 2025. In July I went to the store to make my payment since I was told payments had to be made in person. To my shock and surprise, the office was totally EMPTY. I found out through an internet search that the Portage office was PERMANENTLY CLOSED. Why wasn't I given notice? Why do I have to search the internet for information about the closing or where the other offices, if any, were? Poor business practices.

They have a large variety of options accommodating for any type of sleeping. Their prices are wonderfully reasonable. The manager, Eric, is an outstanding and knowledgeable salesman. I've never purchased a mattress before but Eric did a great job making me feel reassured that I was getting a solid deal. Fantastic experience all around!

We visited several stores for a mattress and our best experience was at American Mattress in Valparaiso. Our salesman. Eric was helpful, informative but not pushy and didn't try to oversell. We found the perfect Mattress for us, The Purple Restore. We were happy with the price. Delivery was included and quick too. We'd recommend American Mattress to anyone shopping for a Mattress.

I was greeted right away upon entering the store and asked if I was looking for a specific type of mattress. Eric was very helpful and made the whole process smooth and easy.
